Well, along with working on my book, I decided to take up some freelance writing for helium. I did this for several reasons. I wanted to improve my writing skills, add my opinion to the vast amount of articles out there, and quite honestly earning a little cash from it doesn't hurt. Also it will help get the word out about my upcoming book. I have to admit I am new to the freelance writing business. But my love of creative writing overpowers my inexperince. I just need to control my obsession with writing a bit so I don't become ingnorant to the needs of my family and what is happening in my life as of now. It's hard not to get absorbed in writing when the passion is there. Everything else around here just seems to disapper and it is just you and your thoughts. Always looking for that healthy medium is a constant battle.
Has anyone else taken up freelance writing along with writing their book? It seems like I am taking on too much but with me being laid off from my job and the kids in school, I have some time on my hands now. I just need to spread my time across evenly. I hope by doing some freelance work it will help me with the writing and sales of my upcoming book. I have looked extensivlely into at home, on-line jobs that I can do. Sadly, the vast majority are scams. I really wish they weren't. An at-home job is something I desperately need due to my MS. I have had so many flares this year. How am I suppose to attain a new job and keep it if the flares keep making me miss time from that new job? What job will tolerate that: Maybe once or twice but nothing more than that. So I am hopes that this freelancing will head my hopes and dreams in the right direction. Check out my articles and essays on helium. My URL is: http://www.helium.com/users/682548 The more reads I get the more money I make. Thanks!

Great question James. You actually have me stumped. Haha. I am still trying to figure that one out. Freelance writing for helium is very, very meager money. It actually isn't a scam but it's nothing that will produce an even slightly significant income. I know there are real online jobs out there but for everyone honest one there is probably like 100 false ones. I find writing a book about my ms is more therapeutic than anything else but even if the book does slightly well its not going to generate much. I'm no Stephen King. Lol. Maybe asking the MS society for ideas of using our writing talents might open up some possibilities for us. I know they have links and resources for finding jobs for people with disabilities. I wish I had a better answer for you James. I am glad you contacted me though. Definitely food for thought.

That's so sad that the MS Society is like that over there. I mean they are kind of like that here too but seem a tad more helpful with other things besides just raising money. There is a site call msconnection.com that is basically a forum for people with MS to connect, share thoughts, and they have a wealth of information along with nurses who work on the site to answer any questions pertaining to MS, finances, resources, and things like that. Maybe that will be helpful to you. You are right...our writing talents are going to waste haha but even if freelancing and authoring an indie book seems weak in ways atleast we are trying. Can't accomplish anything if we don't try right? Speak to you soon. Take care. 9/28/2012 02:45:04

I guess there is always that worry if these organizations out there are really trying to do something good for us or if they just turn into corporations looking for a profit. It's a shame. I am sure they start out with good intentions but just get caught up in monetary aspect like every other person or thing. I really did enjoy your blog and posted about it on here.

Well, I DON'T have MS and I still don't have time to do both and I keep meaning to do that.
